Product Code:SAE ARP5740
Title:COCKPIT DISPLAY OF DATA LINKED WEATHER INFORMATION
Issuing Committee:G-10 W Weather Information Systems Committee
Scope: This ARP covers the display of data linked aviation weather / metrological information. It identifies the necessary meteorological information for use in the cockpit, including its display and interface. In addition, this ARP defines guidelines for the display of meteorological information as well as the text, graphics, textures and iconic symbology used to display this information. These recommendations do not replace standard symbology guidelines for airborne applications already in existence, such as the use of color (see reference section for applicable documents). This ARP is applicable to certified civil aircraft that are equipped (whether installed or portable) for the display of weather information. This ARP provides a set of user-centered design guidelines for the implementation of weather information on electronic displays. It addresses what information is required, when it is required, and how it should be displayed and controlled. This document does not include all the detailed specifications required to generate a weather information display. This document primarily addresses the human factors aspects of the electronic display of weather information. It does not address the software, hardware or system integrity/availability issues associated with the certification or operational approval of an electronic display system. The guidelines, symbols, graphics and text identified within this document also take into consideration their integration with other non-meteorological information displayed in the cockpit. However, recommendations and guidelines for the actual integration of weather information into multi-function displays are covered in other reference material (see reference list for applicable documents).
